The Lake District Coast is Cumbria’s hidden coast. Behind the grandeur of Scafell Pike, Helvellyn and Skiddaw, beyond the expanse of Windermere and the sweep of Langdale Pikes lies a stunning and unexplored coastline. It’s also an ancient coast studded with Roman remains, historic harbours, castles and ancient industrial workings.
As part of Connecting Cumbria’s Hidden Coast Programme funded by Coastal Communities Fund and Sellafield Ltd, Copeland Borough Council are working with partners to host a brand new challenge event the length of the borough. Largely following the line of the designated English Coastal Path, the challenge route will stretch from Millom in the south to Whitehaven in the north. Linking in to the wider programme the coastline will see improvements in infrastructure, new art installations and will enable people to explore Copeland’s art, culture and heritage using the natural environment.
So what to expect? Sweeping views and the sound of the waves, robust route signage, friendly marshals and support, the best race medal, a quality t-shirt and amazing goody bag (we put the ‘good’ in goody bag), and a vibrant Event Village with music and food vans. What’s not to like?
Run the Edge Events
Saturday 20th March 2021
All three runs will start in Millom near the Millom Recreation Centre.
Registration for the race will take place in the Event Village located at the Millom (which will be fully signed). Please note, race numbers will not be posted out in advance of the event.
The 70K starts at 0730 hours, the marathon at 1000 hours and the 10K at 1030 hours.
There is no designated parking for the event but there is plenty of on-street parking. We’re also encouraging the use of the train to and from the start/finish and if demand is there we will also put on buses.
For the 70K: mobile phone (to call the Challenge Director) in case of emergency, foil blanket. For all events, a collapsable drinking cup/bottle/hydration pack. Use common sense in your kit selection based on the weather.
On the longer route we will have checkpoints every 10km (approximately). These will provide water in water butts/compostable cups.
As a company, we’ve made a commitment to be single-use plastic free at all our events where possible by 2020. We’d appreciate your assistance as we fight to reduce the damage to our planet.
The confirmed routes will be out at least three months before race day.
Everyone loves a goody bag and we’re no different. Medal, t-shirt & a selection of other nice stuff.
